10k runners raising money for Pendleside Hospice

Three members of the Business First team took part in a 10k race to raise money for Pendleside Hospice.

Burnley centre manager Candy Powell was joined by marketing team members Alison King and Emma Daffern to join the ASDA Foundation Burnley 10k race, which took place on Sunday morning.

The race began at Towneley Park, Burnley, with hundreds of people gathered to cheer on runners along the way.

Pendleside Hospice had a team of runners participating in the event to raise money for the charity - many were employees of Burnley and Pendle companies taking part in the hospice's Corporate Challenge.

Business First is taking part in the Corporate Challenge for the second year running.

Candy, Ali and Emma raised almost £200 between them in sponsorship ahead of the race, with more funds still coming in now.

The 10k route saw runners travel through some of Burnley's most picturesque and famous spots, beginning at the historic Towneley Hall before crossing Harry Potts Way at Turf Moor, home of Burnley FC.

Then, participants ran through Thompson Park, passing the boating lake and Italian gardens.

The route finished back at Towneley Park, where supporters cheered runners on from around the park.

In fact, the race was well supported throughout the route, with spectators coming out of their homes or workplaces to applaud runners' efforts. Highlights for runners included a steel band performing on Queens Park Road.
