Inside Business First: Drake and Hutch

Drake & Hutch have been residents at our Northlight Parade site in Pendle since August 2021.

Set in a Grade II listed mill complex, with 30 contemporary offices ranging from 150 to 1000 sq ft, our Northlight site is a beautiful, iconic building and the perfect location for creativity and recreation, where collaboration is actively encouraged.

It’s that collaborative nature which has been a big benefit for Drake & Hutch, a company which was established in 2012 in London, selling high quality, luxurious socks for men, women and children, as well as coffee and hot chocolate. Eager to learn more, we popped into Northlight to catch up with Drake & Hutch Managing Director, Shaun Singh…

What do you do?

We are a luxury British brand, selling men’s, women’s and children’s socks, plus coffee and hot chocolate – with plans for more ranges!

How many are in your team, and which Business First location are you in?

Just me for now – I am in Business First Pendle, the Northlight building.

What makes your business different to competitors?

Drake & Hutch is all about personal luxury. Our premium socks are made from organic cotton, with a comfort top, in fantastic unusual designs. They really are high spec and a premium product, with a price point of £9.99 for the men’s. We will soon be launching a monthly subscription service.

Why did you decide to operate from Business First?

We are an international business, so one of the key points for me was having 24/7 access to the building, in case I have calls to make across different time zones. The building and interior is such a nice space, it really looks great. I can bring clients here for meetings and really impress them!

When did you first move into your office?

August 2021

What benefits do you get from operating from Business First?

I’ve really felt the benefit of great networking here. It also gives me a real feel of professionalism, the look and feel of the building just gives it a professional air from the very first look. First impressions count, and our clients, from multi million pound businesses, have certain expectations and Northlight lives up to that. I feel my productivity goes up when I come to the office, I certainly prefer it to working from home. I also have the flexibility here at Business First for my future growth plans, I know there will be the opportunity to move into a bigger space when I need one in the near future.

Would you recommend Business First to other SMEs? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend it to others, it’s such a professional environment. Natasha on reception is so welcoming. From a business perspective it’s great to have someone on reception, to meet and greet but also to take any deliveries when I’m not in the office. It’s a lovely, calm environment to work from.

What’s next for your business?

World domination! Drake & Hutch will be expanding rapidly in the near future, and that includes flying the flag as a British brand abroad. We will certainly be expanding the team, increasing our general footprint, and growing our warehousing space which is with the sister company Store First, who can also accommodate our growth plans. I’m excited for the future!
