Meet the Team: Candy Powell, Centre Manager, Burnley
This week, in our Meet the Team series, we sat down to speak to Centre Manager of Business First's Burnley business centre, Candy Powell, to find out a little bit more about who she is and what she does at Business First and beyond.
As always, we asked some serious questions, and some pretty daft ones, too...
What's your full name and job title?
"Candy Powell, I'm the Centre Manager our Burnley Business centre."
Before working here, what's the most unusual or interesting job you've had?
"I was Exhibition Co-ordinator at Coach House, that was really interesting and meant I got to travel a lot."
If you could swap jobs with one person in the company, who would it be and why?
"No-one, I love my centre, I love my tenants. I love my job!"
What three words do you think best describe you?
"Enthusiastic, fun, caring."
What's the most challenging thing you've had to do here?
"It's not strictly work related, but I managed to lock my keys in my car when I had a meeting to get to. I had to ring Richard, our Estates Manager, and ask him to send someone to get me, and help me to break into my own car. That was embarrassing. And certainly challenging."
What's your favourite film quote?
"There are too many to choose just one."
Do you have a work nickname?
"Nope. At least, I hope not. I don't know about it if I do..."
What has been your most embarrassing moment at work?
"I split my dress. That was mortifying."
What's your favourite place to travel to?
"Anywhere hot. Not too fussy."
How do you define success?
"I think that if you're doing something to the best of your ability, then you're successful."
If a film was made of your life, who would you want to play you and why?
"Jennifer Aniston, she's gorgeous and she always comes across like she's a genuinely nice person."
If you could only drink one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
"Prosecco, but I'd be constantly drunk. So, the sensible choice would be water."
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
"Sunday dinner. Without a doubt. Lamb, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, any veg will do, and lots of gravy and mint sauce."
If you could be any animal for a day, what animal would you be and why?
"Panther, because they're both fast and beautiful."
If you were stuck on a desert island and could only take three things with you, what would they be and why?
"Shower gel, toothbrush, and toothpaste - I need to be clean!"
Tell us something about yourself that people would be surprised to know.
"I was married and had had three kids by the age of 22."
Tell us a little about you and your family.
"My parents live in Spain, so I don't see them much. I have three sisters and a brother; my eldest sister, Cindy, is my best friend in the whole world! I also have three gorgeous girls and a grandson, who I spend most of my time with."
Who is your idol and why?
"My Mum, she's just the best!"
What is your guilty pleasure?
"Only one? There are too many. I'll say chocolate fudge cake. And cheese."
What's your favourite TV show?
"Prison Break. The main character, Michael, is beautiful. And it's a good show, too..."
What's the oldest thing in your fridge?
Do you play any instruments or have any talents or hobbies?
"I'm not very talented, really. I like to think I can dance. In terms of hobbies, I love running and I do combat classes at the gym regularly."
If you could choose one superpower, and only one, what would it be?
"I would definitely be invisible! It would mean I could just disappear any time that I wanted to."
