Meet the Team: Sarah Fretwell, Director of Business First

09 Jun 2017 –– Staff

Since we've been meeting a lot of our tenants, we decided it was about time we introduced you to the team at Business First. So, we'll be sitting down with key people at Business First, to help you get to know the people behind the business.

First up, we sat down with Sarah Fretwell, Director of Business First, and asked her some serious questions, and some stupid ones, as well...

What's your full name and job title?

"Sarah Fretwell, Director."

Before working here, what's the most unusual or interesting job you've had?

"I used to work as a beauty therapist on cruise liners. That was really cool, as I got to travel the world and get paid for it."

If you could swap jobs with one person in the company, who would it be and why?

"It would have to be our IT Manager. The reason being, that I could then get away with giving horrendous excuses for not turning up to work on time or how my company car was smashed up this week.

"He really is a lovely guy, but some of his excuses are legendary!"

What three words do you think best describe Business First?

"Team-orientated, visionaries, creative."

What three words do you think best describe you?

"Harsh but kind, ditzy but focused, a complete contradiction at times. And indecisive. And unable to pick just three words!"

What's the weirdest thing you've ever had to do whilst working here?

"It's not for me to say..."

What's your favourite film quote?

"Life is like a box of chocolates... it's so true."

What's your proudest moment at Business First?

"It isn't just one moment, it's every time I see the team pull together to achieve something."

Do you have a work nickname?

"I probably do, but the staff won't share it with me. Maybe you should change this question when you ask them, and make them answer what their nickname for me is."

What's your favourite place to travel to?

"Anywhere with white sand and blue skies. And anywhere with family."

How do you define success?

"As long as you feel like you're making a difference and feel like you've achieved your personal goals, then I would feel you're successful."

If you could interview any person in history, who would it be and why?

"Princess Diana, just to find out the truth."

If you could only drink one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

"If I was picking an alcoholic drink, it would be pretty much any cocktail. Whereas, if it was a non-alcoholic drink, then elderflower flavoured water."

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

"It would have to be roast dinner; roast dinner with massive Yorkshire puds, carrots, and swede, really good roast potatoes and loads of gravy!"

If you could be any animal for a day, what animal would you be and why?

"A gorilla or a chimpanzee, it depends on what mood I'm in."

If you were stuck on a desert island and could only take three things with you, what would they be and why?

"Easy; a boat, a long range radio-phone, and some flares. Obvioulsy so I could make good my escape."

Tell us something about yourself that people would be surprised to know.

"I did a skydive from 10,000 feet in Mexico, when I was 19, and I loved the adrenaline rush... although that's a lie, I thought I was going to die and screamed quite a lot. After initially deploying normally, the parachute collapsed about half-way down. Luckily, it recovered itself before I hit the beach at a ridiculous speed!

"I also nearly died scuba diving, but that's another story."

What's your guilty pleasure?

"A McDonald's Big Mac meal. Or Ben & Jerry's - any flavour, or maybe all of the flavours. And Oddie's meat and potato pie with OXO gravy. There are too many to list them all!"

Do you have any weird phobias?

"Yes! I can't empty milk bottles that are out of date. I also won't drink tap water. I'm quite normal, really."

What's the oldest thing in your fridge?

"It's got to be milk, hasn't it? I can't throw the flipping stuff away once it's in the fridge!"

If you could choose one superpower, and only one, what would it be?

"It would have to be invisibility, wouldn't it? Then I could glide around the business centres unnoticed and have a good nosey at everything that's going on."
